Why use a stable rug?

A stable rug is used in the stable and sometimes during transport. It helps the horse stay warm. Many horses are clipped, which makes it especially important to choose a stable rug suited to the temperature inside the stable.
How should a stable rug fit?

The rug should sit over the withers at the front and cover the horse all the way over the hindquarters. It is important that it does not pull too tightly across the shoulders and chest. A rug should also not feel too large, as this can affect the fit and disturb the horse.
What thickness should a stable rug have?

Different temperatures require different rug thicknesses. The thickness is measured in grams and describes how much insulating fill the rug contains. See our rug guide for more information.
